September Sewing Project Summary

September’s sewing projects included my quilt design called “Stars in the Milky Way”.  The project is an easy to sew block for confident beginners.

I belong to a group of designers that monthly look at a block from the public domain and imagine how it can be remade and become somewhat different. (Blocks in the public domain have been made for decades and we may not know who first designed them.)

At the left is one example of a strip star block. Four rectangles made from 2.5″ strips and a 4″ half square triangle in the corner. The triangle meets on the edge of the center square. The one unit measures 4.5″ x 8.5″ unfinished.

On the right, one rectangle unite of strip pieced fabrics and the corner yellow half-square triangle is shown aligned with the top of the center square. The other rectangles around the center square are outlines with no colors.

This is a mockup of the blocks set into a quilt layout.
