How-To Remake a Block Unit Without Ripping Everything Out

Oops!

Have you had to re-sew blocks because of a design mistake? And you had a sparse amount of the fabric remaining?

That was my predicament this past week.  I want to share, with you, my solution that you can add to your bag of quilting tricks.

I hope you never have to fix a block, but we usually have this experience once or twice.

I made 4 Maple leaf blocks for the Fall Sew-Along table runner.

I subtly redesigned the table runner to enhance its overall appearance. The new table runner illustration is below.  (This is the Fall Sew-Along I have running through October 17, 29024. Click the illustration below if you’d like to join in.)

Removing each solid corner block and remaking 4 HST blocks to replace them would have been time-consuming.

I came up with an easier, time-saving redesign plan.

After one measurement, the removal of a few short seams, and cutting four new triangles, the blocks were quickly resewn and in place.
