Connections Thru Quilt Blocks

This month the Quilt Block Mania theme is “Connections.” Have you ever thought of all the ways we connect with others, and the world around us, to name a few? And with how many methods do we make connections?

I thought of many possible ways to illustrate connections in a quilt block and decided on Braille. I had a college roommate studying to teach the blind and Braille was one skill she had to learn. I am intrigued that the tiny raised dots by doorways and many other items today are so hard for me to feel, let alone feel each one as an individual letter!

I designed this block with a checkerboard effect to help sighted people to see each individual letter across a row. The words spelled are: Talk, Read, and Mail – three words indicating ways we connect with others.

The pattern is free this month from my Payhip Shop HERE. After February 28, there will be a small charge to get the pattern.

The dots are 3/4″ in diameter and set in the center of imaginary grids on the rectangles. I hope you like making this block and adding it to a quilt using the other “Connections” blocks shared by the designers this month.

I’d be interested to know one manner you think of to make connections with others. Leave a comment!
