Birdhouse Quilt Block

This month’s focus is HOUSES – the free block theme from Quilt Block Mania Designers!

While looking for house-style inspiration online, I typed “Dr. Seuss house books.” Remembering the illustrations from these books that my daughters enjoyed as children, I thought inspiration would come. Maybe you’ve found that these types of searches can lead down a rabbit hole. I followed this rabbit hole!

I found the link to a house in Alaska called the “Dr. Seuss House.” It’s a skinny tower, 185 feet tall, built on top of a normal-looking house. On a clear day, it offers a 360-degree view of Denali (and more). The link to a short video showing it from the air is HERE.

It was an interesting sidetrack, but not the house block I designed!

Construct the roof using Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). It’s easy enough to sew if you have beginner knowledge of FPP.

The bottom two sections are simple quilt-piecing steps using rectangles and squares. The stitch-and-flip method is used for the triangles in the hole.
